Alpaca wool picnic blankets from Ecuador

The picnic blankets that you see in the webshop and in the concept store of EcuaFina are made of alpaca wool. Wool doesn't really sound like a material you can use outdoors, but it is! Alpacas themselves also live high in the Andes and can withstand all kinds of weather conditions. Not that you should leave your plaid in all kinds of weather, but alpaca wool is perfectly suitable as a nice picnic blanket. Did you know that alpaca wool is naturally dirt and water repellent? So you can take the woolen plaid with you and use it as a rug to sit on.

Material, size and color

Our picnic blankets are made from a blend of 70% alpaca wool, 20% cotton and 10% acrylic and are colored with natural and unnatural dyes. The patterns and colors are inspired by South American culture, and brighten up your garden and home in no time! They are cheerful and easy to combine. There is something for everyone, whether you love red or blue or yellow or green, it doesn't matter, we have it all!

The picnic blankets are personally selected by Rebecca. There is a strict selection on quality. Rebecca selects the products for her webshop on honesty. Everything is purchased directly from the local communities. So when you buy an alpaca blanket, you support the local population of Ecuador. Because the picnic blankets are made in small numbers, there may be small differences in color, size or composition. But in general, these differences are so small that you can hardly see it.

The picnic blankets are available from us in two sizes. The largest blankets are approximately 235 cm wide and 195 cm long and is really a large picnic blanket. The smaller blankets are 110 cm wide and 195 cm long. Both sizes are large enough for at least 2 people. This way you can easily enjoy the park, the beach or in the garden together or with the whole family or group of friends - not to mention all the food. The dimensions of the blankets are approximately comparable to a single and double bed. We have some prints in both a large and a smaller version, the difference can be seen in the name. The smaller blankets are indicated by the word 'mini'. In addition, the dimensions of all picnic blankets are indicated on the relevant product page.

By the way, did you know that wool is self-cleaning and dirt and water repellent? A woolen blanket can remove bad odors from the blanket itself by letting the blanket air outside. Also, the blanket will not get dirty quickly, unless it accidentally ends up in the mud or something like that. Fortunately, the blankets can simply be washed in the wash and it will be clean and fresh again in no time!

Washing instructions

You would prefer to use your alpaca picnic blanket 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, but that is of course not possible. At some point, it must or will be washed, but how do you do that best?

It is best not to wash the blanket but to let it air out. Alpaca wool is self-cleaning and by allowing the wool to air, any unpleasant odors will disappear. But if there really is a stain, it is wise to wash the blanket. You can do this in the washing machine on a wool or hand wash program, preferably no higher than 30 degrees. Use washing powder with a neutral pH value or wool detergent. You can use fabric softener, but it is not necessary.

If you do not trust to put the blanket in the washing machine, you can also wash it by hand. For a hand wash, use cold water and wool detergent. Use plenty of water and do not rub. You can use fabric softener for wool. Remove the excess water from the blanket with your hands, but do not wring. Rinse with cold water and pat the blanket with a dry towel until most of the water is gone.

Wool drying

Finished washing and then what? It is very important to know that your woolen products should never be hung up to dry! And never put in the dryer! Instead, try to squeeze as much water out of the blanket as possible and let it dry flat over a drying rack or towel. Ironing the blanket is not necessary.
